Επετειακή Εκδήλωση για τα 30 χρόνια από το θάνατο του Σπύρου Βασιλείου

Το μουσείο «Atelier Σπύρου Βασιλείου» σε συνεργασία με την Εταιρεία Ελλήνων Ιστορικών Τέχνης, την Πέμπτη 26 Μαρτίου στις 18:30 το απόγευμα, διοργανώνει επετειακή εκδήλωση με αφορμή τη συμπλήρωση τριάντα χρόνων από το θάνατο του ζωγράφου.

Οι προσκεκλημένοι συμμετέχοντες ομιλητές πρόκειται να αναφερθούν στην ευρύτερη, δυναμική παρουσία του Σπύρου Βασιλείου στο ελληνικό καλλιτεχνικό πεδίο κατά το μεγαλύτερο μέρος του εικοστού αιώνα, εστιάζοντας σε επιμέρους πτυχές του πλούσιου και πολύπλευρου έργου του και αναδεικνύοντάς τες στον ιστορικό τους ορίζοντα. Ειδική αναφορά επίσης –από την πλευρά τόσο της ιστορίας της τέχνης όσο και της μουσειολογίας- θα γίνει στο ζήτημα της μετεξέλιξης των σπιτιών-ατελιέ καλλιτεχνών σε μουσεία.

Οι παρευρισκόμενοι θα έχουν ακόμη την ευκαιρία να ξεναγηθούν από τις εγγονές του ζωγράφου στο χώρο της κατοικίας και του εργαστηρίου του, που λειτουργεί ως μουσείο από το 2004, στην οδό Γουέμπστερ, κάτω από την Ακρόπολη, και να ενημερωθούν για τις εκθεσιακές και εκπαιδευτικές δραστηριότητες που σχεδιάζονται…

MoMA presents Björk, a retrospective dedicated to the multifaceted work of the singer, composer, and musician. Björk offers an experience of music in many layers, with instruments, a theatrical presentation, an immersive sound experience, a focused audio guide, and related visualizations—from photography and music videos to new media works. The exhibition draws from more than 20 years of the artist’s daring and innovative career, beginning with her eight full-length albums and multiple collaborations with directors, photographers, designers, artists, and other experimental practitioners, and culminating in a new, immersive music and film experience commissioned by MoMA. The exhibition is conceived and organized by Klaus Biesenbach, Chief Curator at Large at MoMA and Director of MoMA PS1.

Thinking about Museums

Strandbeest at night

The last three months have been a real emotional roller coaster ride for me in regards to how museums as civic institutions can play a useful role in the larger discussions playing out in the world. This was brought on by two colliding events: Art Basel Miami Beach and  #museumsrespondtoferguson.

I was at Miami as part of the team from the Peabody Essex Museum that was staffing the U.S. debut exhibition of Dutch kinetic sculptor Theo Jansen’s Strandbeests, put on in conjunction with Audemars Piguet, the luxury watch manufacturer. I’ve been a fan of Theo’s work for years, and the opportunity to work with him, and to see Strandbeests in their native environment was astonishing. Check them out here or here.
